Anniversary trip of a lifetime

9 Aug 2016

What better way for two self-confessed petrol-heads to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary than a marathon rally around the United States on some of the most spectacular routes in the country.

That's exactly what Natgraph Commercial Director Alan Shaw and wife Jan will be doing to mark their milestone event. They will also be flying the Natgraph flag on the adventure through 27 States in seven weeks, over 10,338 miles.

The couple's 1969 Porsche 911 ‘Chalky' will transport them on the The Pan-American Friendship Rally which will also feature around 20 other pre-1970 classic cars. Chalky is an experienced campaigner, having previously completed, among others, a round-the-world endurance rally, Syndey to London, and South America (tip to tip).

The car, with its 2.4 litre 'S' tuned engine, 915 gearbox turbo brakes and uprated suspension, is, according to Alan, "amazing fun to drive." He has personally carried out most of the car's preparation.

Organisers of the Rally have plotted the 100 best driving roads onto a map of the USA and then linked them all together. Along the way the Rally will take in two of the US's most iconic routes, Pike's Peak in Colorado - 12 miles, 156 corners summiting at 14,110 ft and the ‘Tail of the Dragon' with 318 curves in 11 miles on the Tennessee / North Carolina border.

Alan and Jan set out on 26 August and we will be posting updates here on the website and on Twitter - @natgraph as they weave their way across The States.
